Imagine this - you’re driving home on Thanksgiving morning, excited to eat endless turkey and pumpkin pie, when suddenly you hear thumping and your car gets difficult to steer. You pull off to the side of the highway and see it - a flat tire. What now?
You could call AAA or another tire repair company, but they charge significantly more on holidays and you’ll have to wait hours for someone to arrive. You could hope another driver pulls over to help you replace your tire, but that’s not a guarantee, especially in a rural area.
Or you could change the tire yourself. Because you’ve learned how to do it, you can get your flat tire taken off, put the spare tire on, and get home in time for kickoff of the day’s NFL game.
Keep a spare tire in your vehicle at all times. Check its air pressure periodically to make sure it’s not flat when you need it.
Keep a tire jack and tire iron next to your spare tire. You can’t change a tire without these essentials!
Don’t forget to put your hazard lights on so other drivers know to give you plenty of space while you’re working on the tire.
Store a flashlight in your car; you might need to use it if you’re changing a tire at night.
After you get your flat tire replaced with the spare and get where you’re going, remember to get your tire repaired or replaced quickly.
